Anastasia Beverly Hills: Modern Renaissance Palette Review

Call me late to the game, but as of a month (or two) ago, I was finally able to get my hands on the highly coveted Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. You guys KNOW I love me some red toned eye shadows, so having this palette was definitely on my bucket list of buys.

So let's get into the review shall we?

First off with the packaging: I love the dusty pink tones they used for the palette. I know a lot of people dislike the velvet texture in the casing because it easily gets dirty, but my trick is to keep my palette in its box to prevent it from getting all gross.

Opening the lid, the eye shadow palette's layout is nicely laid out in two rows. Some of the color placements are a little confusing because I'm usually used to a subtle light to dark gradient but it's nothing I could complain about.

Shadows: The shadows are buttery smooth and pigmented. This probably the most buttery palette I own. You really don't need to dig your brush into the palette to get a decent color pay off, which is something I'm super impressed with.

Other than the gorgeous line up of red/pink shadows in this palette I love the purple/mauvey color that is in the palette as well as the orange colors. I never thought I would dig the orange colors but it's honestly really pretty and I'm super looking forward to playing with the colors next fall for Halloween especially.

Something to keep in mind with this palette is the fact that a good portion of this eye shadow palette is mattes and satins. There's a shimmer color or two for your high light colors but this palette was truly made me work with mattes. Which is quite challenging if you're just wanting to use this palette alone like I've been trying to do. Usually I use my mattes as my crease or transition color and not technically my lid color..and I have yet to truly master it but it's been an enjoyable challenge.

Another challenge for me is the brush. Usually for my eye make up, I use incredibly dense brushes to pack on pigments and then I blend with a fluffy brush. I feel like really precise and dense brushes give me the control I need and don't have the shadows end up all over the place.

However, I've wanted to work with the brush that they had given me in the palette. Mainly because I've seen other make up/beauty gurus use it and everything look incredibly nice on them. For me, it's been a challenge. Some of the colors get too far in or get where I don't want them to. It's been a true challenge. Maybe it's the lack of eye space on my eyes?

I know most people would be like "bullshit you have hooded white girl lids, don't talk about room." but my eye brows go down pretty low and I'm always finding myself running out of space where others are really creative in faking a crease. I guess it's more a matter of skill but that's just my theory!

Over all, I've really enjoyed this palette. It was quite the investment retailing at 42 dollars a pop (rest in pieces wallet). But considering how much I've been learning and enjoying from it, I'd say it's worth the splurge.

Here are two looks that I've done with the palette so far!
